Experienced Water engineer who is specialise in water-based projects; may have aÂ
civil engineering or environmental background. They may work with a variety ofÂ
different liquids but generally deal with the provision of clean water, disposal ofÂ
waste water and sewage and prevention of flood damage.Â
Typical work activitiesÂ
A water engineer can expect to undertake a range of activities, including bothÂ
technical and non-technical tasks. The exact mix depends on the location (office orÂ
site-based) and seniority of the post. Experince of water supply or treatment andÂ
many general engineering functions apply across the board.Â
Tasks involve:Â
? designing overall schemes, such as sewer improvement schemes andÂ
associated structures, such as pumping stations, pipework and earthworks (theÂ
scale of the design may range from an initial outline to a full, detailed design);Â
? preparing tender documents as a basis for construction;Â
? reviewing technical submissions;Â
? liaising with various bodies and individuals, including local authorities,Â
government agencies, clients, contractors, residents, suppliers, technicalÂ
experts and other consultants;Â
? working collaboratively with other businesses;Â
? supporting other project managers and directors within the business andÂ
across the wider market;Â
? keeping up to date with environmental matters, and being aware of policyÂ
and developments in this area;Â
? presenting technical data or project results to both technical and nontechnical clients and colleagues;Â
? monitoring the progress of projects from beginning to end - from theÂ
feasibility stage, to design through to construction and handover - orÂ
supervising one section of a large project;Â
? controlling budgets at project level;Â
? administering contracts and ensuring that work is completed to deadline;Â
? supervising the operation and maintenance of water and sewerageÂ
infrastructure;Â
? using computer simulations to analyse, for example, potential failure;Â
? managing staff, including other engineers, technicians and site workers;Â
? Maintaining and expanding the portfolio of clients, by developingÂ
professional relationships that lead to secure repeat business.Â
? using a variety of specialist computer applications/simulation softwareÂ

EducationÂ
1- University degreeÂ
A degree in a subject such as geology, geography, geotechnology/geophysics,Â
mechanical engineering, environmental science or civil engineering isÂ
essential.Â
2- 5 years or more experienceÂ
3- English language spoken and writtenÂ
4- Infrastructure project experience completedÂ
5- Middle east experience is an advantageÂ
